Music Job Title: Band/Music/Choir Teacher Job Location: CES/CMS/CHS
Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Plans and implements a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and complies with State Department of Education Standards and Benchmarks, Common Core State Standards plus the CMS Board of Education goals and objectives. 2. Develop students’ technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments and cover appropriate band literature styles for school and competitive performances. 3. Design and implement a wide variety of appropriate instructional activities for students of varying abilities and talents. 4. Teach a variety of vastly different skills on different instruments simultaneously. 5. Plan logistics and transportation for band/choir events outside of school. 6. Plan and organize concerts and other public performances a. Scheduling b. Prepare and produce concert programs c. Logistics: arrange venue, transport equipment d. Organize and supervise large groups of students 7. Effectively manage large classes of students. 8. Supervise large groups of students in activities outside of school hours and off campus. 9. Manage fundraising for music program. 10. Organize and maintain a large inventory of equipment. 11. Organize and maintain a large inventory of instructional materials and music library. 12. Delivers curriculum using high quality state approved textbooks. 13. Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences. 14. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere. 15. Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports. 16. Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals to the Student Assistance Team (SAT). 17. Participates in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings and documentation when appropriate. 18. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. 19. Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of emails, notes, phone calls, conferences, and/or newsletters. 20. Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student. 21. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. 22. Completes all District required paperwork and documents. 23. Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required. 24. Follows health and safety practices and regulations. 25. Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment. 26. Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community. 27. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates general knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Demonstrates knowledge of various routine tasks, duties and procedures and the ability to follow specific instructions. Ability to exercise considerable and sound judgment to instruct students and manage their behavior. Willingness to improve competency by periodically participating in some form of professional growth and to remain current with the latest developments in the profession. Ability to work with various ethnic groups. Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents. Effective in oral and written communication skills. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies. Able to work collaboratively to achieve the overall goals of the school and the District.
