Director Of Music Ministries – Part Time

Posted On:
September 7, 2022

The position requires 20 hours per week. The Director of Music Ministries will recruit for, train, direct, and support our chancel, children, and bell choirs; share music with the children in our childcare program; encourage and empower people to participate in music ministries; with the pastor, plan and coordinate music for weekly worship and special services; and build relationships with, and bridges between, persons outside the church and Asbury UMC.

Proficiencies in directing voice and bell choirs and in engaging with children are required. Nearly all the work can be done with flexible hours, with these exceptions: It’s required that the Music Minister be available Sundays from 8-12:15 (or later, if there is a bell choir rehearsal); Monday or Tuesday for a meeting with the pastor to coordinate music for worship and talk about music outreach to others (especially children); and Wednesday evenings, from 7-9 p.m., for choir rehearsal. The remaining hours are to be spent at the church, likely working with children and on things that help bring other people into the music program. When there is a funeral, the Music Minister is expected to find a pianist for the service (if ours is unavailable). We also have a few special events throughout the year, and the Music Minister is responsible for providing music for the event. For example, we might want a soloist, ensemble, or band for a church celebration or neighborhood outreach party.
The salary is $22,000. Employees accrue sick leave in accordance with the new law in New Mexico, and they also accrue paid time off.
