We hope this email finds you well and enjoying the beginning of your summer. Again, we would like to thank you for your unending efforts this spring to continue to provide quality arts education to your students.
There are many uncertainties as we look toward reopening schools in the fall but we wanted to catch you up on a few details. The PED has established a task force that is working on plans for the fall and NMMEA, NMAEA, NMACAE as well as a coalition of Fine Arts Directors are working closely with a task force member to advocate for arts education. We feel strongly that the arts are a vital component to a student’s social and emotional learning.
Along with working with the PED task force, this group has been working to create teaching structures that could be followed depending on what type of instruction we are faced with next fall (online or hybrid).
As part of this planning, we have developed two surveys to gather information, one for teachers and one for parents. We are asking you to take a few minutes and complete this short survey. The survey will close on June 17th.
Feel free to share this link with other Fine Arts teachers who may not be on the NMMEA or NMAEA list, especially theatre and dance teachers. Please only complete the survey one time, even if you receive it from multiple sources.
Additionally, NAfME and NFHS, along with countless other performing arts organizations have commissioned a study that will determine aerosol and droplet spread for all band instruments, 4 vocal ranges, child singing voices, dance, dance while singing, spoken dialogue with no mitigation as well as various mitigation techniques. This study is currently underway and results are expected by the end of the month. This will help provide important data in making decisions regarding performing arts in the classroom.
We would encourage you all to relax and recuperate this summer but also begin to shift your thoughts from what is not possible in an online or hybrid environment to what is possible.
Again, thank you for completing the survey and it will close on June 17th.
We hope this email finds you well and enjoying the beginning of your summer. We would like to thank you for your efforts this spring as we navigated learning from home. Fine Arts instruction consisted of various forms in different districts and we are hoping to gather information on your experience this past spring.
As we anticipate schools reopening in the fall, a coalition of arts educators are working to create teaching structures that could be followed depending on what type of instruction we are faced with as schools resume. This coalition includes the New Mexico Art Education Association, the New Mexico Music Educators Association, and the New Mexico Advisory Council on Arts Education as well as Fine Arts Directors from multiple school districts across the state.
We are asking you to complete a short survey if your child received instruction in the Fine Arts, which includes: Band, Choir, Dance, General Music, Guitar, Media Arts, Orchestra, Piano, Theatre, Visual Arts, or any other course that is considered a Fine Arts class.
Please complete a survey for each child that participated in a Fine Arts class. The survey will close on June 17th.
Thank you for your time.
